The string techniques class is a training sidecar to the Chicago Youth Orchestra. We highly encourage students who are not currently taking private instruction to enroll in these workshops.
Over the course of three and four week sessions, students will engage in social interaction with other string players as we develop techniques specific to string playing such as vibrato, shifting, playing in tune and ensemble tuning. Classes will build on each other for these musical skills that need patience, time, and repetition to develop. Each class will emphasize social interaction, support of our peer's musical progress, and the introduction of specific skill building exercises. Students will leave each class with a specific practice plan to work through during the week.
Classes will take place on Friday afternoons from 2:00 - 2:45.
Session 3 is July 10, 17, 24 and 31, note there will be no class on July 3rd due to the Holiday weekend
Session 4 is August 7, 14, 21 and 28
The children's orchestra in Lincoln Square is for the advancing intermediate youth string ensemble players ready to begin a string ensemble in Chicago. Being a member of this youth orchestra in Chicago will enhance note recognition and sight reading, provide experience with conductors and learning to be a part of an ensemble rather than a soloist, all while learning new and exciting repertoire. There is space for Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Harp in the ensemble. Young artists are required to have a working knowledge of their instrument and be able to efficiently read music.
Weekly rehearsals are Thursday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30 and are currently being held virtually. We are now registering for summer.
$195 for Summer season plus a $25 materials fee
