Musical Chairs Studio
Summer Program
Thanks for a great Summer!
Our Summer program was a huge success and our students had a wonderful time making music! Our youngest students gained music fundamentals to help them with future endeavors in individual instruments. They have begun to read a staff and transfer notes on the staff to notes on percussion type instruments. They also learned about the sound intervals between notes and how to replicate them through basic common melodies.  The older students used their music skills to create and record their own compositions!

The following programs were offered this past Summer.  Visit us again next Spring to learn what we have in store for 2010.  To register for our Fall courses,  contact us!  or view our Fall progams page.  We also have some exciting Events coming up this fall.  Click here for more information:  Events

Private Lessons are offered in piano, voice, guitar and drums and are customized to blend with the learning style of each student. Weekly lessons are typically 30 minutes and are available to children entering 1st grade or older.  Success with weekly private lessons is highly dependent on regular, consistent home practice.

Tuition:  $25 - $30 per 30 minute lesson depending on the instructor.  Longer lessons may be recommended for more advanced students.

Fast Track - Immersion program
The immersion program includes the benefits of private lessons, yet eliminates the largest obstacle: at home practice.  In the early stages of learning any musical instrument, most students do not have enough core music knowledge or good practice habits to successfully practice at home without some level of supervision.  This is the primary reason why many students become discouraged and fail during their first year of lessons.

Our immersion program is designed to help students get through the initial learning curve through more frequent lessons with "in studio" practice occurring immediately following the lesson.  The immersion program is recommended for a period of at least 4 weeks.  Independent practice at home is not required and, in fact, is discouraged to avoid developing bad habits.  Once a certain core music foundation and a strong practice routine has been established, students can transition to standard weekly lessons.

Students work directly with an instructor for 30 to 45 minutes and then apply what they have learned during a 15 to 30 minute practice session in the studio immediately following the lesson. Time frames are dependent on the student's age.  The process gives the student access to their instructor should questions arise when they try to apply what was learned in the lesson.  This builds good practice skills from the very beginning and dramatically improves the student's success rate. Sessions are held 2-3 times per week.

Tuition:
$40 per 45 minute lesson including studio practice time
$35 per 30 minute lesson including studio practice time

Group Lessons - Minimum of 5, maximum of 8 students.  Sessions will run for 4 weeks from June 15th through July 10th and July 13th through August 7th . Classes are held Mondays and Thursdays:

10:00 - 10:45 ages 4-5
1:00 - 1:45 ages 6-8

Topics are designed to isolate key components of musical training and devote specific attention to these areas.  Gaining additional strength in these individual areas will built stronger, well rounded musicians.

Rhythm Essentials - Many, many music students learn to read music and play pieces with reasonable complexity, but they never completely master the basic concept of keeping a beat.  These students ultimately reach a point where musical progression becomes increasingly difficult.  When students learn to internalize a beat, a greater understanding of music fundamentals can be obtained.  This course will be a fun, fast paced, movement oriented program geared toward creating and maintaining various basic rhythms.

Sight Reading - means to play a piece of music you've never seen before.  The skill of sight reading differs significantly from instrument performance.  Performance emphasizes working toward perfection of a specific piece.  Sight reading requires the ability to continue playing in spite of mistakes as if moving on a freight train. This skill lends itself well toward accompaniment and playing music in groups.  The technique for teaching sight reading is different than that of teaching performance.  Thus, it warrants a class all on its own.  Students who learn to sight read well also have increased note and rhythm recognition skills.

Ear Training - Music is all about hearing.  Does your child sit with an instrument and sound out a song they know?  This is often referred to as playing "by ear".   A person with well trained musical ear learns to hear music in their head and translate the sounds to a musical instrument.  This skill is particularly useful for composition or improvisational playing. It also benefits the performance musician by teaching them to hear the sounds of a piece in addition to reading the notes.  This class will focus on developing listening skills and the ability to identify sounds and translate them into music.

Master Theory - Classes will be broken down by current skill level.  This course focuses on the intellectual component of learning music.  Its all about the basics:  note reading, rhythm, note values, intervals, chords, scales, etc.   Every good musician spends a considerable amount of their learning focused on basic theory.  This would be an excellent course to partner with music lessons or one of the other group opportunities available.

Tuition:
$100 per four week session.
